HI-San Diego 55th Annual Christmas Bike Trip

Hostelling International San Diego wants you to come ride with us! We are embarking upon our 55th Annual Christmas Bike Trip. It is possibly the oldest continuous touring ride in the United States. And we have a free overnight promotion for HI members who sign up!

The Christmas Trip ride is really like a dream vacation for the active traveler. The trekwill take you through miles of stunning mountains (sometimes snowy even in San Diego!), desert, and coastline. It runs through cities and small towns alike with lots of interesting stops along the way.

It is 6 days long and approximately 400 miles, averaging 55 miles per day with one 100 mile century ride day. You can sign up for all or a portion of the ride. It leaves the day after Christmas and returns in the evening of the 31st, where after there is an optional but customary no-host New Year’s dinner at a traditional Mexican restaurant.

Folks can tailor their accommodations and choose to "camp" indoors in facilities or outside in their own tents, or even book hotel rooms along the way. Breakfast and dinner are provided eachnight and people bring their own lunch and snacks or buy it on the road. There is a trip leader and sag support to make this the perfect ride for novices and veteran riders alike.

It is not just a ride but an incredibly fun and social bike vacation. Many people make new friends or connect with old ones every year from across the city and country. We have people of every demographic, young to old, couples, solo travelers and families. Most people who do the ride once end up getting hooked and comingback every year. Discounts will be given to groups of 5 or more and youth.

Riders can also enjoy discounts on their hostel overnight stay booked around the time of the ride. And if you are a Hostelling International member or become one, we will give you a free stay in a dorm in our Downtown location either before or after the ride, when you register!
