Our Hostels & Regions - December 2011
Hostel Network Expanding
Even as we focus on unification, we continue to grow our core hostel network in exciting ways. New hostel projects are now underway across the US, including Boston, Richmond, and Monterey/Ft. Ord. And we just opened our newest hostel in Houston!
HI-Houston, the Morty Rich Hostel, Opened September 2011! Hostel activist and former HI Board member Morty Rich left a generous bequest to develop a hostel in Houston. We have fulfilled Morty’s dream with a beautiful hostel in Montrose, a lively neighborhood of Houston, close to downtown, museums, and many attractions. Opened in mid-September, this gracious and historic home has space for 54 guests in the main house and carriage house, plus a large yard and swimming pool. Houston-based volunteers have worked tirelessly with HI-USA to raise funds and to share Morty’s hostelling spirit with travelers and with the Houston community. Special thanks to donors across the USA, who contributed more than $300,000 to develop this beautiful addition to our hostel network.
With the construction of our new hostel for downtown Boston well underway, we look forward to it's grand opening in the spring of 2012. For more information about this exciting project click here
