HI Richmond Hostel
Richmond, Virginia will soon have its own HI hostel, introducing travelers to the cultural and recreational opportunities in this historic state capital. The new hostel will be conveniently located in downtown Richmond close to public transportation and attractions. Hostel guests will enjoy easy access to historical sites, arts, culture, and the great outdoors.
The hostel will be housed in the historic Otis Elevator building on Second Street, a sturdy brick building, most recently owned by the State of Virginia. Extensive renovations will lead to a comfortable 50 bed hostel, with environmentally sustainable features and operations, including a green roof and water collection system.
Close to Bike Route 1 (the East Coast Greenway), the hostel will be a welcome stop for cyclists on overnight or multi-day journeys.
People of all ages will enjoy exploring Richmond’s rich heritage as one of the first English colonies and the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War.
How You Can Help
We need to raise $500,000 to initially open the hostel with 25 beds; and an additional $500,000 for the second phase adding 25 more beds. You will play an important part in bringing this hostel to life with your generous tax-deductible donation. Gifts of all sizes are needed. So please donate now.
The first 25 donors of $300 or more will be given the opportunity to name a bed in the new hostel. Name it for yourself or in someone's honor. But don't delay; the beds are sure to go fast. The hostel will open in 2012, when we will welcome you to sleep in your very own bed.
